Eat & Drink

Elk provides a full western breakfast, our breakfast chef will offer you a hot breakfast or you may help yourself to the selection of cereals, toast, jams, spreads and tea and coffee.

In the evening sip on some sake, beer or imported wine from our bar, order from our apres menu which has a mixture of Japanese and western options and tell us about your day on the hill, thrills and spills!

Aside from our Apres menu, Hakuba offers some of the best Japanese food in the World.

Some of our favourite places include Gravity Worx - for amazing pizzas, Nonjae - truly amazing value authentic Japanese food, Sounds Like Café - great burgers, Kikyoya which some say has the best sushi in town and Sobashin for amazing noodles.

We will point you in the right direction for dining out and even make bookings for you, Kikyoa restaurant for Sushi, Sounds like Cafe for lunch, Nonjae-amazing value…we know all the secret great spots for dinner.

Food and drinks are very affordable and your money will go a long way in Hakuba with most people tending to live on $50 - $100 a day for food and drinks. Alcohol is cheap but it can vary significantly from place to place. A handy travel tip is to make sure you stock up on cash as Japan is a cash economy and credit cards are not accepted in many locations.

Great place, great location, great food and friendly staff

"This was our 4th trip to Japan and our first time at Elk. It is situated near several restaurants and Echoland. The bus stops to the ski resorts are close. Justina and her staff are good fun and happy to go out of their way to help with local knowledge or with a lift to the rental shop, other ski resorts or the supermarket. The cooked breakfast is a great start to the day. The fruit bowl is kept topped up for a healthy fruit snack. The lounge is nice and warm at night with the fire going. There are games for the kids to play and there are usually other children to keep your kids company."

Suits everbody

"Staying at Elk is like staying with relatives. The staff go out of their way to make everybody feel welcome - even extending to going out on the town, to local events, and driving you to your whatever each day (ski resort, board hire, doctor's appointment, onsen etc). It's certainly not 5 star and doesn't pretend to be, but if you've ever stayed in an on-mountain ski lodge, this really is comfortable."

Super cosy!

"A great western style cosy place! Great service with a very friendly vibe. Hot bacon and eggs breakfast every morning and they will even give you a lift to the ski fields when they are not busy. Thanks Team!"

Ski holiday

"We had the time of our lives spending Christmas and New Years at the Elk. We found everything that we expected and more. We couldn't fault value for money - the rooms were very comfortable, we were close to free bus shuttles that took us to all the mountains in Hakuba Valley, a five minute walk to a host of great restaurants and a host/manager that went out of her way to ensure that we had a great time. I have recommended the Elk to a number of my friends who will be visiting this coming season."
